Romeo's Harry Potter First Birthday Party

My baby is ONE! What an amazing year it has been. Romeo has taught me patience, selflessness and a love I never knew existed. It has been the most rewarding and the best year of my life.

Romeo's first birthday was at an Italian restaurant and Harry Potter themed. I want to take the credit but my hubby actually thought of the theme haha. Romeo's room is now slowly being converted to Harry Potter too. I feel like he has outgrown his baby room and I want him to always remember how magical life is. As adults we lose the ability to use our imagination the way kids do and I want to ensure Romeo uses his for as long as possible.

So back to his party. I started the theme with his invites. I bought parchment paper from Office works and replicated these. Then they were wax sealed and sent off. The dessert lolly table was filled with Harry Potter inspired treats like Butterbeer cupcakes, Jelly slug lollies and Gringots coins. I had 3 different types of cookies made up and alternated them on top of the plates. These were given as favours to the guests.
For the table centre pieces I kept the decorations simple with a pumpkin on top of wooden slab surrounded by green foliage and a snitch on top. I then had giant balloons and tassels hanging from the string attached to the pumpkins.
I had 4 giant red balloon with gold tassels (main tables), 2 clear balloons with gold confetti inside and red tassels and then a black 1 (last three were on the dessert table). Romeo woke up on his birthday with all these balloons above his head and he LOVED IT. I think balloons look effective and aren't as pricey as flowers anddd you get to keep them for ages after so it's a win win.

I was super crafty and made the cupcake toppers with lighting bolts (they were so cute) and also little props for people to hold up for pictures. These were of Romeo's gorgeous face, The Gryffindor crest and Harry Potter sayings like 'Muggle' and 'I solemnly swear I am upto no good'.  I also made up some potions by getting bottles from the $2 store and putting glitter inside and labelled them ' unicorn tears' etc. The last prop was a ' Have you seen this wizard ' for the guests to hold up. The kids had fun with it :)

To me, details are everything and all my stress and hard work paid off. When you give something 100% it will always pay off.

Although I wasn't happy with how I looked and the photographer I hired didn't quite get the photo's I was after, overall it was an AMAZING day. Romeo wasn't well and he still managed to smile and run around. He had cut his 8th tooth a few days earlier and had a blocked nose and cough from the phlegm. He ended up sleeping half the party but I think most kids do on their first birthday anyways. Sometimes well, most of the time you just need to let sh*t go when it doesn't always go to plan. Not everything is always going to be perfect and a good rule is if it isn't going to matter in 5 years then just let it slide. I still struggle with this and get caught up on little things but I am trying and I am aware.

My favourite moment from the party was when we sung Romeo happy birthday. He was SO excited and happy - Jordan was holding him and he was kicking his legs and clapping and then he blew out his candle. I just wanted to freeze time and replay it over :) My baby boy was so spoilt with love, blessings and beautiful gifts. I feel so blessed that he is surrounded by all these wonderful people that love and care for him.

I hope you like all the pictures and a massive thank you to everyone who wished my son on social media :)
